Berlin Airlift June 24,1948-May 12,1949 After WW2 Germany was divided into four zones,which was divided by the Allies. The United States,Great Britain,France, and the Soviet Union each controlled a zone. There was conflict between the east and the west on philosophy. The east hemisphere philosophy was communism and the west hemisphere philosophy was capitalism.The west wanted Germany to have a democratic government,but the Soviet Union didn't want this. The Soviet Union controlled Berlin,which is the capital of Germany.On June 24,1948 Soviet Union cut off access to food,rail/road traffic,and electricity. Western countries flew basic necessities to Berlin.
